Many wood finishes today claim to be natural, eco, or green. In reality, many products — including many hardwax oils — contain synthetic resins, urethanes, and undisclosed chemical additives.

LIVOS takes a different approach.

For over 40 years, LIVOS has been manufacturing plant based wood finishes in Germany using renewable raw materials and full ingredient transparency.

LIVOS finishes are used worldwide and are now available in New Zealand.

How LIVOS Is Different From Hardwax Oils

Hardwax oils have become popular because they are easy to apply and leave a natural looking finish.

However, many products sold as hardwax oils rely on synthetic ingredients such as polyurethane resins to create durability.

LIVOS oils are formulated differently.

Rather than relying on synthetic plastic resins, LIVOS uses natural oils, plant waxes, and natural resins to create a breathable finish that enhances the timber rather than coating it.

The result is a finish that looks natural, feels natural, and ages beautifully with the wood.

Full Ingredient Disclosure

Since 1984, LIVOS has openly declared every ingredient used in their products.

Unlike most finishes, LIVOS publishes the full ingredient list on product packaging and technical data sheets.

This level of transparency is extremely rare in the wood finishing industry.

Plant Based Raw Materials

LIVOS finishes are made primarily from renewable plant ingredients including:

• linseed oil
• natural resins
• plant waxes
• mineral and plant pigments

Across the LIVOS range, around 150 natural raw materials are used — compared with the thousands of synthetic chemicals commonly used in conventional coatings.

Responsible Manufacturing

One of the primary ingredients used in LIVOS products is linseed oil, which is grown organically in northern Germany and cold pressed at the LIVOS factory.

Even the by products of this process are reused, with seed shells returned to farms as animal feed.
